Year 9 Youth of the Year
Year 9 Youth of the Year is held in Term 3 and is an event that focuses on students’ awareness and understanding of current affairs. This involves an interview before a three-person panel and a prepared speech which will focus on recent current affairs. Two students from each school may be chosen to participate.
During the interview, the panel will engage in a conversation with each student about some of the major religious, social, educational and political issues in Australia at the present time.
For the speech, students are to select a topic of their choice drawn from current everyday life. It should be on a topic of some relevance in today’s world.
At this competition, we have adjudicators from Toastmasters attend and judge the students based on their speech as well as their interview. Trophies are awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.
